Summer SafetySummer is here and its time for fun in the sun. We all think about safety when it comes to the sun and most of us do a pretty good job of slathering or spraying the sunscreen on our families. We are also aware of the dangers in the water and watch our children closely in the pool or ocean, take them to swim lessons and of course make sure they wait an hour after eating before swimming even though no one really seems to know why. | ![]() |
Summer Safety and Home Security
Most of us think about fire safety whether its grilling, campfires or celebrations with fireworks. Children seem to always want to be too close to the grill or fire. The big “kids” want to impress with the biggest firework displays and if its illegal and they had to go across state borders to get it, all the better. And yes guys, the warnings and precautions are written for a reason, not just to ruin your fun. For those of us who live in the the dryer regions, there’s also the danger of those little bonfires turning into forest fires if left unattended.
For many of us the highlight of the summer or maybe the year is the family vacation. We plan usually months in advance for travel and lodging arrangements. We make arrangements for pets. If we are driving, we may take our car in for an oil change or at least check the tire pressure. We may ask a neighbor to water our flowers and “keep an eye on our house”. Then we pack our car and off we go for that much needed break from the daily grind.
While we are away enjoying our break from reality, we try not to think about work or worry about anything. If there were to be a real crisis, we will hear from work. For those who cannot relax without knowing, there are easy ways to check in, but for most of it, we can deal with it when we get home.
What about home? The neighbor, who works 80 hours a week is diligently watching our house to make sure nothing is amiss, right? We kept the light on in the family room, which will undoubtedly give the impression we are home and ward off any would be intruder, right? Well, not really. Wouldn’t it be nice to have someone actually watching your house 24 hours a day whether you are home or out of the country? Would if you could check in on your house any time you wanted from wherever you are?
