1. The Choice between Wired or Wireless
We strongly recommend you go for a wireless home security system. Along with the obvious advantages, a wireless system can use the latest cellular technology and your house can be fully automated. There are no wires to cut, and you can also connect it with your broadband to gain live footage of your house anywhere in the world. It is; however, a costly solution.
Under-construction houses, and houses being remodeled, can be fitted with wired systems without any ‘collateral damage’ to the walls. Wired systems are an effective and low cost security solution. The only disadvantage in a wired system is that they can be sabotaged in case the wires are cut of damaged.
2. The Choice between Broadband, Landline, and Cellular
To communicate with the monitoring center of your security company, you will need to connect your alarm system through landline, broadband, or cellular networks. Again, the latest and best solution in this regard is cellular connection, but it is costly.
You can also opt for broadband connection. It is highly recommended if you have a couple of security cameras installed along with the motion sensors.
A landline is a good option for a basic home alarm system, but it can also be sabotaged easily so we do not recommend it.
3. The Choice between Different Types of Sensors
Sensors for heat, sound, motion, and even humidity are available from different home security companies. At first you will be overwhelmed by the number of options, but you should make your decision carefully.
Besides motion detectors, which are an obvious choice, you might need smoke detecting sensors if there is a danger of fire. Furthermore, if you have problems such as basement flooding, you might also want a water sensor alarm.
Highly advanced sensors that can detect fingerprints and open up doors for you are also available in the market. For an average household, we suggest motion detecting sensors for windows, doors, and other points of entry, along with a smoke detector for the kitchen.
4. The Option for Video Surveillance
All packages being offered by prominent home security companies include an audible alarm. However, most basic packages do not include video surveillance, and it can be added as an additional option or through an upgrade.
We strongly recommend opting for video surveillance, it will be a noticeable expenditure in your monthly cost but your security will be enhanced significantly, and you will be able to monitor your home even while at work or when out of town.
