Will you want to incorporate some home automation?
Most systems are including home automation along with home security so you can control your lighting. Did I forget to turn the iron off? How nice would it be if you could logon to your phone and remotely shut down an outlet. Think of the energy savings you can achieve by scheduling you air conditioning and heating temperatures for when you are home and when you are away.

Will you need a medical alert service?
Most home alarm companies provide a panic button or a medical alert service which is excellent for the elderly. You want to make sure they get the immediate attention if something happens.

Do you need to protect more than just the inside of your home?
The window and door sensors monitoring are simple devices that you can easily install on an outside gate, a gun cabinet, or even a liquor cabinet if you want to make sure the kids don’t get into the untouchables when your away.

Do you want to integrate your fire/smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors?
Just about every home security company offers these devices but they do not come standard in their home security equipment packages. You can often switch out a door sensor for a one of these or just add it to the package.
