We idolize them, they are our heroes on the big screen and the small screen, but it turns out they have the same problems we do. An interesting story and this week involves Will Smith, actor, musician, director, producer, megastar the man does it all, one thing he doesn’t do and certainly doesn’t condone is people invading his personal space. While in Russia promoting his new movie Men In Black 3, interviewing with reporters, shaking hands, promoting his new action movie. Amidst all the fanfare one of the reporters appeared to lean in for a hug after a handshake, but then proceeded to kiss the actor on the cheeks (customary in some countries) but for a split second it seemed like this reporter may have been attempted to kiss Will Smith on the lips. So what started off looking like a innocent greeting ended up being an attempted smooch, Will Smith did what most people would do when someone makes an unwanted advance in their personal space – he reacted. He pushed the reporter off and slapped him (back hand) in the face saying something along the lines of he tried to kiss me on the lips, he’s lucky I didn’t sucker punch him. The reporter is indeed lucky, I mean this guy played Mohammed Ali! – very convincingly too.
Needless to say people do strange things around celebrities, I for one never understood why people can be expected to hug total strangers but it happens. There is no shortage of celebrities who have been victim of a stalker. To name a few Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Aniston, Sandra Bullock, Leonardo Di Caprio we all know these big names. The truth is they can hire bodyguards, security guards maybe a whole police force to protect them and their valuables, but most of us regular folks buy a home security system.
For people who feel targeting, or are concerned about home invasions, intruders coming in to their home, if you know someone could be out to get you, secure your home first with perimeter protection. Perimeter security protection ensures that all your doors and windows are protected against an intruder, soon as a door or window is opened we want that to trigger an alarm if the home security system is armed. Door and window sensors as well as glass break sensors are great for perimeter protection because they trigger an alarm at point of entry, alerting you and the authorities. Motion sensors typically don’t pick up on an intruder until the burglar or intruder is moving inside your home, so while motion detectors are a good solution they may not be the best solution in this situation.
Get a Key chain remote: Most home alarm companies provide keychain remotes sometimes called key fobs, there are a few benefits of having a key chain remote included in your home alarm system. They help you conveniently arm and disarm your home security system at the push of a button, so you are more like to use your home alarm system. They also come with a panic button. The panic button feature is important because if you see a possible intruder, at the push of a button on your key chain remote you could trigger the siren and dispatch the police. Keychain remotes work up to a 300 foot radius from your control panel.
Consider cameras and video surveillance: While these typically don’t notify the central monitoring station, they add an invaluable component- cameras provide evidence which could get a stalker on tape.
Being vigilant could make a huge impact on your safety, tell friends and family about a threat, definitely tell neighbors and your local police so they could help keep an eye out and watch for suspicious activity or people around the neighborhood.
We may never understand fully why people obsess to the level of stalking or why some feel the need to threaten others, our best line of defense is preparation, and in the event of Will Smith his cat like reflexes.
